Kenya replaces South Africa in four-nation Intercontinental Cup

Kenya was named as the replacement after South African Football Federation expressed its inability to participate in the tournament.

Kenya will replace South Africa as the fourth member of the upcoming four-nation Intercontinental Cup the All India Football Federation announced on Monday.

The replacement was made after the AIFF received a letter from the South African Football Federation expressing its inability to participate in the tournament which will kick-off at the Mumbai Football Arena on June 1.

Besides Kenya from the CAF region, the competition will also have representation in the form of New Zealand from the Oceania region, and Chinese Taipei from the AFC region.

The tournament is being organised to strengthen India’s preparation for the AFC Asian Cup in UAE in January next year.

The Indian national team is currently ranked 97 in the FIFA rankings.
