US PGA Championship has grim forecast for the rest of the weekend.

The threat of lightning forced a suspension in play at the US PGA Championship before the leading groups had chance to begin their third rounds.

Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb, two clear of the field at nine under through 36 holes, were due out at 2:55pm local time (7:55pm BST).

However, play was suspended at 2:14pm, as forecast thunderstorms drew closer to Baltusrol.

The last US PGA Championship to be played at the New Jersey venue, in 2005, finished on a Monday due to poor weather and a repeat appeared possible with a grim forecast for the remainder of the weekend.

Prior to Saturday's suspension, Kevin Kisner and Padraig Harrington charged up the leaderboard, rounds of 65 lifting them to five and four under respectively.

The nearest challengers to Walker and Streb were world number one Jason Day, the reigning champion, and Emiliano Grillo - both at seven under.

Open winner Henrik Stenson was one stroke further back, while the likes of Patrick Reed, Martin Kaymer (both -5), Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama (both -4) and Jordan Spieth (-3) were also in contention.

Spieth managed to play one hole before the horn was sounded to signify a stoppage.
