Rani Rampal, Gurjit Kaur, Jyoti and Lalremsiami struck goals as India got off to a positive start in the FIH Women's Series Final Pool A match against Uruguay in Hiroshima, Japan.

FULL TIME: INDIA 4-1 URUGUAY. India comfortably beats Uruguay in its first Pool A match of FIH Women's Series Finals. Goals from Rani Rampal (10'), Gurjit Kaur (21'), Jyoti (40') and Lalremsiami (56')  ensured India emerged victorious at the end.

- As we get closer to the commencement of India vs Uruguay, the news coming in from the other fixture of Pool A is that Poland has beaten Fiji 6-0.

- “As the highest ranked team, it’s important for us to win and get 500 ranking points, which will be very important when it comes to the draw for the next round of qualifiers. But we must play consistent to be successful,” coach Marijne said before the team’s departure to Japan.

- India is ranked ninth in the world, whereas Uruguay is 24th. Since 2013, the two teams have met just once, with India winning the fixture by two goals.

- In the warm-up matches, India beat a local club team 4-1 followed by a 2-1 win against Japan which is grouped in Pool B with Chile, Russia and Mexico.

- In order to prepare for the tournament, India played two practice matches - against a local club and the Japanese team - and had good training sessions a week prior to the tournament, which has helped it understand the pitch.

- The Indian women's team, which is ranked ninth in the world, needs to finish among the top two in the tournament to make it to the Olympics Qualifiers to be held later this year.

- India takes on Uruguay in the Pool A match of the FIH Women's Series Finals. The other two teams in the pool are Fiji and Poland, who are currently facing each other - Poland is leading 3-0 in the final quarter.
