India announces squad for Junior Men’s Asia Cup

Hockey India today announced an 18-member team for the 8{+t}{+h} Junior Men’s Asia Cup to be held in Malaysia. The biggest Asian tournament for junior men, starting from November 14, will feature eight countries.

The Indian contingent wil be led by the talented Harjeet Singh, who also was adjudged the Player of the Tournament in the recently concluded 5th Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia, where they finished runners-up.

“Malaysia is a known territory to us, and we are fresh in our memories from our performance in the 5th Sultan of Johor Cup. The team has been together for over two months now and that just adds to the comfort and performance standards,” said India’s head coach Harendra Singh. He said the energy in the camp is very positive and the team is confident of putting up a good show.

“They are young and I am glad that we have Harendra Singh as the Coach who has been successful in channelizing their energy into the right place,” said Narinder Dhruv Batra, Hockey India’s President.

Defenders: Dipsan Tirkey (Vice Captain),Varun Kumar, Anand Lakra, Vikramjit Singh, Harmanpreet Singh

Midfielders: Nilakanta Sharma, Harjeet Singh (Captain), Santa Singh, Manpreet Singh, Mangalsingh Chahal

Forwards: Mandeep Singh, Sumit Kumar, Arman Qureshi, Gurjant Singh, Mohd. Umar, Ajit Kumar Pandey

Pool A: India, Malaysia, Japan, China.

Pool B: Korea, Pakistan, Oman, Bangladesh.
