Dennis officially ends 37-year association with McLaren

The long-serving Ron Dennis has wished McLaren well after reaching an agreement to cut his ties with the Woking-based team.

Ron Dennis' 37-year association with McLaren is officially over after he sold his remaining shares with the Formula One team.

Dennis was placed on on gardening leave after stepping down as chairman and chief executive officer of the McLaren Technology Group last November.

The long-serving boss, who was forced to resign by fellow shareholders, has now reached an agreement to cut his ties with the Woking-based team.

"I am very pleased to have reached agreement with my fellow McLaren shareholders,” said Dennis.

"It represents a fitting end to my time at McLaren, and will enable me to focus on my other interests. I have always said that my 37 years at Woking should be considered as a chapter in the McLaren book, and I wish McLaren every success as it takes the story forward.

"Perhaps my greatest satisfaction is the Formula One team's outstanding racing safety record, which is a tribute to the dedication and efforts of hundreds if not thousands of talented and conscientious employees whom I have had the privilege of leading."

Dennis became the most successful team principal in the history of the sport since taking charge at McLaren at the end of the 1980 season.
