IOA not to bid for 2022 Commonwealth Games

With the 2010 Commonwealth Games fiasco still fresh in the minds of Indians, IOA doesn’t look too keen to take the burden of hosting the multi-sport extravaganza.

Indian Olympic Association president N. Ramachandran said India was not keen on bidding for the Commonwealth Games.

Indian Olympic Association president N. Ramachandran on Tuesday rejected reports of India bidding for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He told Sportstar that IOA had not sent in any proposal to the Sports Ministry and there were no plans to bid for the quadrennial event.

“We are not keen to host the Games. We have not given any proposal to the Sports Ministry,” Ramachandran said.

With the 2010 Commonwealth Games fiasco still fresh in the minds of Indians, IOA doesn’t look too keen to take the burden of hosting the multi-sport extravaganza. .

There were media reports that the IOA was keen on hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games after Durban pulled out.

Durban was awarded the Games in September 2015, but financial constraints forced the city to reconsider its decision. Subsequently, Durban was stripped of the hosting rights after it did not meet the criteria set by Commonwealth Games Federation.
