Stella, MGR Janaki win on day one in Amity sports event

Around 700 athletes from 30 colleges are vying for the top honours in two disciplines — basketball for men and handball for women.

Amity University, Chennai is conducting its annual sports event, Amity Premier League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai from Tuesday, March 6 to Thursday, March 8. Around 30 colleges from Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts are taking part in the sports event.

Around 700 athletes from 30 colleges will vie for the top honours in two disciplines — basketball for men and handball for women.

On the first day of the event on Tuesday, Stella Maris College and MGR Janaki college won their respective handball matches over Ethiraj College (13-3) and Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (15-3).

In the men's basketball, Bharath University beat Vivekananda College 52-31 while S.A. Engineering College got the better of Veltech 34-28.
