Haryana teenager Anmol Jain won the National Shooting Championship men's 10m air pistol final amid whistles, screams and music at the Balewadi Sports Complex shooting range here.

Anmol, a first-year arts student of Hansraj College, Faridabad, outclassed his experienced rivals including London Olympics 25m rapid fire silver-medallist Vijay Kumar, Omkar Singh and P. N. Prakash.

Prakash finished second as Army's Omkar clinched the bronze medal.

Once Anmol took the third place stringing three shots in the second series, behind Punjab’s Achal Pratap Grewal and Karnataka’s Prakash, there was no stopping the Harayana shooter.

Scores of 10.6, 10.5 and 10.0 surged him to the third position. He then shot 10.6 and 10.7 that reflected his ability to find the inner ring frequently. He led from the seventh and eighth single shot round and did not allow Prakash and Omkar Singh to catch up with him. He hit the bull's eye on his 18th shot, scoring 10.9, and shot 10.8 and 10.2 in the final two chances. Twelve 10-plus scores in the 20-shot score-sheet underlined his skill and poise.

Maharashtra’s Vikram Shinde was eliminated first and he was followed by Punjab’s Maninder Singh, Uttarakhand’s Gaurav Rana, Army’s Vijay Kumar and Grewal.

An hour ago the men's final, Anmol lost a close battle to Army's Gaurav Tomar in the junior event's final.

Earlier, in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position, Army’s Satyendra Singh showed consistency in the kneeling, prone and standing positions to get the better of his army teammate Chain Singh and navyman Rahul Poonia. Army’s Surendra Singh Rathod led after the kneeling and prone position rounds consisting of 15 shots each, but his from simply dropped in the standing position attempts. He finished fourth.
