Congratulations to Abhinav. He has done us all proud. I have always maintained that somebody or the other shines in a good team. We have been improving from bronze in 1996 and 2000 to silver in 2004. We had to move forward. Had we gone back, it would have affected the Olympic sport. The youngsters would have suffered. Now that we have one gold, it will be an encore.
It is only the beginning and India has got chances of winning more gold medals.
“He has done all of us proud. It is one of the best things to have happened to Indian sport.” Dhoni, alongside Bindra, was conferred with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2011.
It’s a proud moment for India. He has put in a lot of effort to achieve this. As a sportsman, I am very happy.
We are feeling on top of the world and we cannot put our joy in words. He has done the nation proud and also his city, Chandigarh. It has been a tale of sweat and extreme hard work.
Bindra has created history. This medal is really the beginning for India and I am sure in future there will be many more to come. To come back after injury and do what he has done is amazing.
Abhinav has shown the world that an Indian can also stand on the podium. It is a result of his hard work and his family support.
“He has made the country proud.” Bindra also received Padma Vibhushan, India’s third highest civilian award from Ms. Patil in 2009.
