Roddick: Wimbledon Federer's best slam chance

The Swiss master has failed to add to his incredible tally of 17 major titles since he was crowned champion at The All England Club four years ago.

Seventeen-time grand-slam champion Roger Federer hasn't won a major title since he won the Wimbledon four years ago.

Andy Roddick believes Wimbledon represents Roger Federer's best opportunity to end his grand-slam drought.

The Swiss master has failed to add to his incredible tally of 17 major titles since he was crowned champion at The All England Club four years ago.

Federer is in the twilight of his magnificent career at the age of 34 and his record run of featuring in 65 consecutive slams came to an end when he missed the French Open due to a back injury.

Former world number one Roddick, who unsurprisingly views the all-conquering Novak Djokovic as the man to beat, sees the grass at SW19 as the most likely place for last year's runner-up to add another slam to his huge haul.

The American told Omnisport: "It's going to be the usual suspects [in contention to win Wimbledon]. I say right now any tournament Novak enters he's the favourite.  

"It doesn't matter which surface and I think that's the ultimate compliment to show how complete he has become and how dominant he has been in the last two or three years.

"Pete [Sampras] and I were on a plane and said it might be the most impressive three-year run that's ever existed in tennis.

"It's always exciting to see if Roger can win one more time and I think his best shot is Wimbledon. I think he's Wimbledon's favourite son, the relationship that he has with the crowd there is amazing. I saw it first hand too many times unfortunately."

Roddick will also be intrigued to see if Murray, beaten by Djokovic in the final of both slams this year, can add to the solitary Wimbledon title he won in 2013.

He added: "It's going to be exciting and with [Andy] Murray in front of the home crowd, what he did winning Wimbledon when he did was such a huge thing that I tried to explain to people here in the States. 

"Take the [Chicago] Cubs winning the World Series and multiply it by a thousand, that's what it meant to that country to have one of their own winning that event after so long. It was a huge deal being able to deal with the pressure and we'll see if he can do it again."

World number three Federer will start his quest for an eighth title at SW19 against Guido Pella on Monday, while Djokovic faces James Ward in the opening match on Centre Court and Murray takes on fellow Brit Liam Broady.
