Garbine Muguruza targeted domination after winning the French Open, and a second grand slam win at Wimbledon could move her to the top of the WTA rankings.

Muguruza beat world number one Serena Williams in straight sets at Roland Garros to secure her first major title at the second attempt, having lost to the American at the All-England club last year.

Wimbledon is now the only grand slam in Williams' possession, and a failure to reach the final in London this year could prompt an end to her over three-year reign at the top of the women's game.

Having moved up to number two in the world, Muguruza must win Wimbledon if she is to take advantage of any Serena slip-up, but last season's run to the final suggests she has the ability.

Williams has reached five of the last eight Wimbledon finals, winning four.

Novak Djokovic beat long-time rival Andy Murray to win the men's singles title at Roland Garros, completing a career Grand Slam, but the Serbian star's semi-final opponent made the biggest splash in the ATP rankings.

Dominic Thiem broke into the top 10 for the first time after reaching the final four in France, jumping up eight places to seventh in the world.

Despite withdrawing ahead of the third round, Rafael Nadal leapfrogged Stan Wawrinka into fourth place after the defending Roland Garros champion lost to Murray in the semi-finals.
