Wozniacki not getting carried away as seeds tumble

Caroline Wozniacki is refusing to look too far ahead after succeeding where several seeds failed by reaching the Australian Open second round.

The WTA Finals champion made a solid start in her bid for a maiden grand slam by ultimately outclassing Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-2 6-3 on Monday.

In contrast, US Open champion Sloane Stephens (13) and veteran Venus Williams (5) were among those to fall at the first hurdle, opening up Wozniacki's side of the draw.

Wozniacki was already among the favourites for the title in Melbourne and her chances of a maiden grand slam title have, at least on paper, been boosted by the early exits.

But the second seed is focusing purely on her own game.

"I never look at the draw to be honest, so I don't really know who is up next," she told a post-match media conference.

"I saw a couple of results. But, yeah, I don't really follow too much to be honest. [I am just] happy to be through. It was not an easy match. Maybe on paper it looks easy but it wasn't. I'm just happy to be through. I feel pretty good. I think it's a good start. Hopefully I can progress from here."

Wozniacki will play world number 119 Jana Fett in the second round after she beat Misa Eguchi 6-3 6-2.
