Yuki Bhambri comfortably progressed to the second round of qualification in the Australian Open by beating American Stefan Kozlov 6-1, 6-4 in straight sets.

Bhambri was impressive right from the start against the 116th ranked opponent, getting the break in the first game only, and then dominating the first set to win 6-1.

The second set was a much closer affair, with Bhambri breaking in the fourth game only to be broken back in the seventh. However, Bhambri managed to get a decisive break with the scores at 5-4.

The former junior Australian Open champion, who had started the season impressively at the Chennai Open, now needs to win two more qualifying matches to secure his entry into the main draw.

Saketh Myneni meanwhile lost in the first qualification round to Germany's Peter Gojowczyk, score was 6-0, 6-2.
