Johnson has been a consistent middle-distance runner in the Asian circuit.

For somebody who had suffered a shocking loss to Manjit Singh in the 800m, Jinson Johnson recovered quite well in the 1500m at the Asian Games in Jakarta a couple of days later.

The 800m silver was certainly not a medal that Johnson had expected in Jakarta, not after he had broken Olympian Sriram Singh’s 42-year-old record a couple of months earlier. Even in his wildest dreams, the 27-year-old would not have expected to lose to Manjit.

But the Kerala athlete ran a well-planned race in the 1500m to grab the title and return from Jakarta with gold and silver medals.

Johnson has been a consistent middle-distance runner in the Asian circuit, winning medals in almost every event and he was also sixth (1500m) and seventh (800m) in the Continental Cup in Czech Republic in September. He also came fifth in the 1500m in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
