Mirabai Chanu

Mirabai Chanu entered the hall of fame in Indian weightlifting by winning the women's 48kg title in the World championships at Anaheim, USA, in November last year.

The 24-year-old Manipuri athlete lifted a total of 194kg (snatch 85kg and clean and jerk 109kg) to become the World champion. She ended India's medal drought in the World championships for over two decades.

This was also the first Worlds medal for an Indian after the formation of the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2003-04.

Mirabai followed up her Worlds title glory securing the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Gold Coast April this year in style. She totalled 196kg (snatch 86kg, clean and jerk 110kg) to achieve her personal best and create a new Games record.

However, she could not take part in the 2018 Asian Games due to an injury as India missed out on a medal chance in Jakarta.
