IPL Qualifier 2: The bowlers deserve credit for where we are this season, says Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by six wickets to make it to its eighth IPL while also notching up its 100 win.

Dhoni: "The captain only asks this is what I need. Then it's up to the bowlers to figure out how to bowl, and they have to put in the hard yards."

Chennai Super Kings skipper M.S. Dhoni, on Friday, expressed his happiness over the team's all-round performance which saw Chennai cruise into its second consecutive Indian Premier League final with a six-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals.

"The kind of response from the boys today was brilliant. The way we batted to get to 148 was very nice. The spinners got some turn, and we kept getting wickets at the right time," Dhoni said.

"The credit needs to go to the bowlers. The captain only asks this is what I need. Then it's up to them to figure out how to bowl, and they have to put in the hard yards. Thanks to the bowling department for where we are this season," he added.

Asked about Delhi's batting and how he went about marshaling his troops in the first innings, Dhoni explaind, "The whole (Delhi's) batting line-up is strong, they have many left-handers, the ground is small, we had a left-arm spinner they could have negated.

"The crucial part was to keep getting wickets. I would have preferred it if the openers finished it off. Once they got the required rate below 6 an over, there was no reason to play big shots and get out. They did the hard yards."
