"The fiasco between Kumble and Kohli should have been handled by whoever was in charge. It was not handled properly."

Former India captain and Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday said that the unpleasant episode involving Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli should have been handled in a better way by the BCCI.

“The matter should have been handled a lot better. The fiasco between Kumble and Kohli should have been handled by whoever was in charge. It was not handled properly,” Ganguly told reporters.

Asked about the possibility of Ravi Shastri joining the race for the head coach’s post, Ganguly said, “Everybody has got the right to apply. We will find out. I can also apply provided I am not an administrator.”

Interestingly, there was a war of words between Shastri and Ganguly during the selection of the head coach about a year ago. Shastri, who had applied for the top job, had objected to Ganguly’s absence during his presentation, while the CAC member had returned the compliment by taking a dig at the Mumbaikar for taking part in the interview via video conference while holidaying in Bangkok.

About his new role, Ganguly, who is now in the BCCI's seven-member special committee to identify critical points with regard to implementation of the Supreme Court judgement favouring reforms in the BCCI, said, “We will have to listen to the Committee of Administrators. I am not exactly sure what will happen.”
