C.R. Gnaneshwar led Andhra's response on day two of the Ranji fixture against Hyderabad.

C.R. Gnaneshwar was a picture of confidence as he notched up his second half-century in only his third game to help Andhra score 207 for three in reply to Hyderabad’s 271 on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Group-B match at Dr. PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex here on Monday.

It was a mature knock from the 21-year-old, who hit a century on debut against Himachal Pradesh this season and looked good for a second one, before falling to a simple catch at mid-on off Ajay Dev Goud's bowling. Ajay got the ball to grip and bounce resulting in Gnaneshwar's downfall.

The Hyderabad pace attack comprising Chama Milind, Ravi Teja and debutant Ajay came into its own after the tea break, with both Ravi and Milind generating more pace and movement to test the batsmen.

Short ball strategy

Milind unleashed a barrage of bouncers with one of them hitting Jyothsaikrishna just above the left forearm. Milind was eventually successful in getting the batsman caught on the leg-side with another lifter.

Left-armer Mehdi and off-spinner Saaketh Sai Ram did not pose any serious challenge.

Earlier, pacer K.V. Sasikanth completed a deserving second consecutive five-wicket haul to ensure Hyderabad, resuming on overnight score of 226 for seven, did not cross the 300-mark despite some lusty blows from Mehdi Hasan.

Group B: At Vizianagaram: Hyderabad 271 in 90.3 overs (Tanmay Agarwal 44, Akshath Reddy 57, Himalay Agarwal 59, K.V. Sasikanth five for 64) vs Andhra 207 for three in 76 overs (C.R. Gnaneshwar 65, Ricky Bhui 49 batting).
