Sehwag a possessor of uncluttered mind: Laxman

Former India batting great V.V.S. Laxman says that Virender Sehwag is one of his all-time favourites and that is was an honour to have played with him for India.

“For me, Viru was a great entertainer who provided so much of joy to the fans all over the world with his batting style. Two characteristics which stand out in his batting are his uncluttered mind and the way he stayed positive in any given situation in which he or the team was in,” Laxman said, reminding that Sehwag did speak to him this morning before announcing his retirement.

“The best part is also the fact that he not only scored runs fast but played some real big knocks,” Laxman felt.

“Viru might have played some great innings at the highest level including the triple and the double centuries. But two innings stand out fresh in my memory — the century against Australia in the Adelaide Test on the 2008 tour which was so unlike the Sehwag style of batting, full of patience. And the other innings was his unbeaten double-century when he carried his bat through in the Galle Test against Sri Lanka once. That was very special given the fact that he was not in the comfort zone but showed great character during that innings,” Laxman explained.

“I always have fond memories of Viru not just as an outstanding cricketer but also as a wonderful personality, a gentleman to the core,” Laxman concluded.
