The book titled ‘Tribute to Jagu’ will be launched by SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala in Colombo on Thursday.

Last year when the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) organised the first edition of the Dalmiya Memorial Lecture as a tribute to its former president, late Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala was invited to speak.

And now, the SLC has decided to return the favour by coming out with a pictorial book on Dalmiya — who had also been the chief of International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Titled ‘Tribute to Jagu’, the book will be launched by Sumathipala in Colombo on Thursday. With the Nidahas Trophy being on, the Indian cricketers are likely to be present for the programme.

During his tenure as the ICC chief, Dalmiya played a key role in supporting cricketing affairs in Sri Lanka and shared a great rapport with Sumathipala. It is learnt that the book will have a foreword by the SLC chief.

The SLC has also invited Dalmiya’s wife Chandralekha, son Avishek — who is now the joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) — and daughter Vaishali for the launch.

“I have received an invitation from the Sri Lanka board for the book launch. I am told it is a pictorial book on my father. Since it will have a lot of iconic pictures, it would not be right for me to divulge the details,” Avishek told Sportstar from Kolkata. The CAB joint secretary is likely to reach Colombo late on Wednesday.

It’s been nearly two-and-a-half years since Dalmiya passed away, but SLC, celebrating the 70th independence of the island nation, has certainly hit the right chord by remembering an old friend.
