Williamson, Broom sweep series for New Zealand

New Zealand completed a series sweep of Bangladesh after cruising to an eight-wicket victory in the third and final ODI on Saturday.

Despite the early losses of openers Tom Latham and Martin Guptill, the Black Caps chased down the 236-run total with ease thanks to captain Kane Williamson and Neil Broom in Nelson on New Year's Eve.

Latham (4) was trapped leg-before by Mustafizur Rahman in the second over before >Guptill (6) succumbed to a hamstring injury as he retired hurt the following over, but Williamson's unbeaten 95 and a 97-run knock from Broom made light work of the tourists.

Williamson and Broom — who hit an unbeaten century in game two — put on a 179-run second-wicket stand as James Neesham (28 not out) chipped in for the Kiwis, scoring the winning runs with 52 balls remaining at Saxton Oval.

Mustafizur was the only Bangladesh bowler to enjoy any success, claiming figures of 2 for 27.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh won the toss and appeared on track for a mammoth total. Opening pair Tamim Iqbal (59) and Imrul Kayes (44) stormed out of the blocks and guided Bangladesh to 100 off 123 deliveries without loss before the latter was dismissed in stunning circumstances.

Broom produced a one-handed catch to break the century opening stand off the bowling of Mitch Santner (2/38), who drew the batsman into a wild leg-side slog.

Kayes' departure sparked a collapse, with Sabbir Rahman (19), Mahmudullah (3), Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan (18), Mosaddek Hossain (11) and Tanbir Hayder (3) sent back to the pavilion as the tourists slumped to 179-7, having lost six wickets for just 77 runs.

New Zealand's bowling attack spread the wickets as Tim Southee (1/45), Neesham (1/28), Matt Henry (2/53), Jeetan Patel (1/40) and even captain Kane Williamson (1/24) struck with the ball, while Luke Ronchi produced a run out.

While he watched his team-mates crumble, Nurul Hasan held firm for the Bangladeshis, hitting a quick-fire 44 off 39 deliveries — which included three fours and one six — to see the visitors push beyond the 200-run mark.
