Chennai City FC on Saturday announced it has signed midfielders S. Rajapandi and S. Pandiyan who played for Viva Chennai in the CFA senior division league last year. The term of the contracts is yet to be known.

“Both players are well-known among all the clubs in the CFA senior division league. They have plenty of experience playing in the local league. They’ve been signed under the U-23 player quota. Last year, we set a benchmark by signing three city-based players who went on to do well. So, it’s just that we’ve decided to follow the same path,” said the team owner Rohit Ramesh.

“We had to push ourselves to do better against Chennai City FC in the CFA league last year, for it had a good mix of foreign and native players with I-league experience. Now, to play for it is a great opportunity. Our game will improve when we come in contact with the quality of play at the I-league level,” said the 22-year old Pandiyan who pre-dominantly plays as a central midfielder.

“We know most of the players in the team already. So, it’s going to be easy for us to settle in,” he added.

The 21-year old Rajapandi, who plays in the wing, said he had already played for Chennai City FC in the U-18 Singa Cup in Singapore and felt the opportunity is a just reward for his hard work.

Both players are products of the Raman Vijayan Football Academy.
