Khalid Jamil is all set to take over the reigns at the Kolkata giant’s East Bengal FC after leading Aizawl FC to a dream I-League triumph in the recently concluded campaign.

The deal began to take shape after the Red and Golds had roped in two of Aizwal’s key players Lalramchullova and Mahmoud al Amna for the forthcoming season.

The former Mumbai FC manager’s exploits with Aizawl FC earned him the Indian football’s Coach of the Year title. If the move goes through next week, he will  be looking to repeat the success with the Bengal club which only managed to finish third, behind the Mizoram club and Mohun Bagan.

Jamil was earlier reported to have turned down a big money offer to join East Bengal as a player in 2001, citing its association with liquor brand Kingfisher as the reason.
