Reigning ISL champion Bengaluru FC (BFC) has signed midfielder Raphael Augusto from Chennaiyin FC on a two-year deal, the club announced on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Brazilian played 68 times for Chennaiyin across four seasons and won two ISL titles. He was the standout player in Chennaiyin's victory over BFC in the 2018 final in Bengaluru.

"I am very happy to sign for Bengaluru FC," Augusto said. "Bengaluru has a very good coach, a good set of players and some amazing fans and I’m sure all of us together can win more titles for the club. I want to thank all the fans and supporters [in Chennai], because they always did their best to help and support me."

Augusto becomes BFC's sixth foreigner and will join a midfield that includes Erik Paartalu, Dimas Delgado and Eugeneson Lyngdoh.

“We’re all aware of, and have seen the kind of talent he possesses," said BFC coach Carles Cuadrat of Augusto. "The onus is now on us to get the best out of an exceptional player. We have a season that also includes Asian competition and a title-defence, and it’s going to take experience, talent and hard work to make it a successful one. I believe that Raphael brings all three attributes to the dressing room.”
