ISSF World Cup: Jitu Rai fifth in air pistol

Jitu shot 580 to qualify for the eight man final in seventh position, before being eliminated in fifth position and after the 14th shot in the 20-shot final.

Jitu Rai made the air pistol final but, had to settle for the fifth place in the shooting World Cup in Bangkok on Saturday. The 28-year-old Jitu, who had won the free pistol gold on Friday, qualified with a score of 580 in air pistol but missed further progress as he lost the race by 0.5 point to the eventual bronze medallist Xuan Vinh Hoang of Vietnam, following shots of 8.8 and 9.9.

Among the five World Cup medals that Jitu has won so far, he has a gold, silver and bronze from air pistol. The two other Olympic qualified shooters in the event, Prakash Nanjappa (572) and Gupreet Singh (569) were below par and placed 21st and 29th respectively.

In the 50-metre rifle prone event, Gagan Narang was 13th with a total of 617.1 as he missed the final by one point.
