Yashaswini finishes fourth in Women's air pistol in 30th Universiade

World Cup gold medallist Kim Minjung (582) of Korea eventually pipped Yashaswini Singh Deswal to the bronze medal.

Youth Olympics finalist Yashaswini Singh Deswal qualified in the second place but slipped to the fourth spot in the women’s air pistol final in the 30th Universiade in Napoli, Italy, on Sunday.

Yashaswini was second in qualification with 573 behind the World Cup gold medallist Kim Minjung (582) of Korea, who eventually pipped the Indian to the bronze medal, behind the two Iranians Dorsa Arabshahi and Haniyeh Rostamiyan.

The second Indian in the competition, P. Shri Nivetha shot 566 and missed the final by two points.

India has so far won the women’s air rifle silver medal through Elavenil Valarivan.

-Shotgun World Championship-

Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (72) and Areeba Khan (60) shot 132 between them and were placed 26th in mixed skeet team competition in the Shotgun World Championship in Lonato, Italy, on Sunday.

The other Indian team of Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan (70) and Kartiki Singh Shaktawat (59) shot 129 and placed 32nd among 37 teams.

In the junior mixed skeet, It was below par performance by the Indian teams as they finished at the bottom. The pair of Arjun Thakur (60) and Darshna Rathore (66) was 13th while Gurnihal Singh Garcha (57) and Parinaaz Dhaliwal (54) was 15th and last.
