Set 1: Serena 6-4, 41 minutes
Serena smashes her racquet in frustration during a nervy start as the match starts with four consecutive breaks of serve. Finally both players are able to hold before Serena goes a break up at 4-3 ahead with a superb backhand winner. She serves it out flawlessly, setting up three set points and grabbing the first with her seventh ace of the match. Serena has 13 unforced errors in the first five games, but just one in the remainder of the set.
Set 2: Serena 6-4, 41 minutes
It goes with serve for six games before Venus wilts and Serena pounces, converting her third break point of game seven with a backhand return winner. She holds to love for 5-3 and the writing is on the wall for Venus. The elder Williams holds serve to stay in it and with Serena serving for the championship, Venus wins a 24-shot rally, the longest of the match, to put pressure on her sister. But Venus then nets a forehand to hand Serena championship point, before another error gives her victory
