Ramkumar Ramanathan knocked out the 68th-ranked fourth seed Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 7-6(1), 6-4 to make the second and final qualifying round of the USD 5,244,930 ATP tennis tournament in Cincinnati.
In the final round, the 22-year-old Ramkumar, ranked 179 in the world, who has already assured himself of 16 ATP points, will play Maximilian Marterer.
The German Marterer beat Prajnesh Gunneswaran in a second set tie-break. Prajnesh collected USD 2,075 for his early exit.
In the ITF women’s tournament in Thailand, Dhruthi Venugopal, Pranjala Yadlapalli, Natasha Plaha and Kanika Vaidya made the third and final qualifying round, from among nine Indian players. Karman Kaur Thandi was the only Indian player to have a direct acceptance in the USD 15,000 tournament.
In the concurrently held men’s Futures, Kaza Vinayak Sharma and Nitin Kumar Sinha lost from winning positions in the second and first qualifying rounds respectively.
