Somdev Devvarman to get 35 lakh from government

The sports ministry today approved a financial assistance of Rs 35 lakh to tennis player Somdev Devvarman for his training, travel and accommodation requirements this season.

Somdev Devvarman recently hired a new coach, Theodoros Angelinos.

The sports ministry today approved a financial assistance of Rs 35 lakh to tennis player Somdev Devvarman for his training, travel and accommodation requirements this season.

“The ‘in—principle’ approval of the Competent Authority for financial assistance of Rs. 35 lakh from National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) has been granted for training during the year 2016,” a ministry release said.

Somdev, who recently hired a new coach, has been struggling on the ATP tour and his ranking has plummeted to 186.
