Sportstar Aces Awards: Saurabh Chaudhary wins Best Young Athlete

Saurabh Chaudhary won the World Championships junior gold in September and then the Youth Olympics gold in Buenos Aires in October.

Saurabh Chaudhary was adjudged the Best Young Athlete (Boys) of the Sportstar Aces Awards at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Chaudhary started shooting at the Veer Sahamal Rifle Club with coach Amit Sheoran in 2015. At just 16 years old, he had the distinction of winning the Asian Games gold in the 10m air pistol in Indonesia.

He also won the World Championships junior gold in Changwon, South Korea, in September, with a junior world record score of 245.5. It was better than the men’s gold winning score of 241.5.

Later, Chaudhary won the Youth Olympics gold in Buenos Aires in October, outclassing the field with a total of 244.2 in the final and 580 in qualification. The Junior World Cup gold in Suhl, Germany, apart from the Asian Air Gun championship in Kuwait completed his achievements of 2018.

Former India cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar, The Hindu Publishing Group chairman N. Ram, former India hockey captain M.M. Somaya, Olympian shooter Anjali Bhagwat and Olympian long-jumper Anju Bobby George selected the deserving winners in categories involving young athletes, teams, coaches and parathletes.

The Sportstar Aces Awards supported by Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, in association with MRF are an effort to highlight the untold stories of struggle, fierce dedication and selfless work behind an athlete’s ascension, irrespective of the popularity of the sport.

The awards look to create a medium of knowledge and vision exchange as it brings all stakeholders of Indian sports under one roof.
