India qualified for the Asia Cup 2022 Super Four stage on Wednesday, after it beat Hong Kong by 40 runs in Dubai.
Rohit Sharma’s men qualified for the last four on the back of successive wins in its group which also comprises Pakistan. Earlier on Tuesday, Afghanistan qualified for the last four after beating Bangladesh.
The two-time defending champion, India, had won the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup T20 held in Bangladesh in 2016. It also won the previous edition held in the UAE under Rohit Sharma. In the 2018 edition held in the ODI format, India beat Pakistan and Hong Kong to qualify for the Super 4.
India has won 18 of the 24 T20Is it has played so far this year - its best across any calendar year. Its win places Pakistan and Hong Kong in a virtual knockout match for the second Super 4 spot from Group A on Friday.
If Pakistan beats Hong Kong, it will meet India once again on Sunday in Dubai.
