Kamrul Islam Rabbi has been named in Bangladesh's preliminary squad for its upcoming tour of New Zealand, replacing the injured Shafiul Islam.

Fast bowler Shafiul had to withdraw from Bangladesh's 22-man selection after sustaining a hamstring injury in Khulna Titans' Bangladesh Premier League clash against Dhaka Dynamites.

While Shafiul could potentially be fit to feature in the Test series, which begins in Wellington on January 12, the 27-year-old will definitely miss all of the tour's limited-over matches.

That has opened up a place in the squad for Kamrul, who made his Test debut against England in October, with the 24-year-old seeing off competition from fellow bowlers Al-Amin Hossain and Alauddin Babu.

Bangladesh will start its preparations with a training camp in Sydney before kicking off the tour with an one-day international in Christchurch on December 26.
