T20 Mumbai: Dhrumil Matkar spins SoBo Supersonics to victory

It's win over Shivaji Park Lions take it into semifinals of the tournament.

Dhrumil Matkar starred for SoBo Supersonics as they cruised past Shivaji Park Lions in the T20 Mumbai League on Wednesday.

Dhrumil Matkar underlined his versatility to pilot Sobo Supersonics into the semi-finals in T20 Mumbai.

The pacer took three wickets in a defence of a modest 150, leg-spinner Parag Khanapurkar cranked up pressure with two wickets and a run-out. Shivaji Park Lions were bowled out for 115 in 19.3 overs, easing SS’s road to victory by 35 runs with three balls to spare at the Wankhede stadium.

Raunaq Sharma’s shock dismissal in the 14th over, run out at the non-striker end after bowler Khanapurkar deflected the ball onto the stumps in follow-through, derailed SPG chase. The latter lost early wickets, were never in the game in the face of excellent catching by SS, led by Jay Bista. Four wins in five games took the victors into the semi-finals.

SPG bowlers managed to keep Supersonics strokeplayers in check for 15 overs, till Takawale smashed 40 in 32 balls to lend substance to the total. Openers Jay Bista (32 off 31 balls), number three Parag Khanapurkar (21 off 28 balls) tried to assert themselves on a tough track, slowing down after the Powerplay overs.

Supersonics scored nine runs in four overs, 59-2 after 10 overs and plenty of work for the remaining batsmen. Takawale began patiently, running singles and placing into gaps before cutting loose to hit two fours, two sixes and salvage the situation. Gaurav Bengre took two wickets, Vijay Gohil bowled 14 dot balls, giving away only 11 in four overs. SPL lost four games played so far.

Panthers beat Triump Knights MNE

In the second match of the evening, North Mumbai Panthers managed to edge past Triumph Knights MNE by 44 runs,

With the team struggling at 56-4 after eight overs, the Panthers needed a stroke of brilliance and Sairaj Patil stepped up to take the team through in what can be called a virtual quarterfinal.
