Liverpool wins 3-0 and books its place in the knockout stage. But it didn’t seem so easy until Salah opened the scoring for the Reds, late into the first half. Ajax was fiery and could have been two goals ahead, if for better finishing. Two quick goals early in the second half and the game died down.

Entering into the final few minutes and it doesn’t look like there will be a change in the score line. Tsimikas in for Robertson and that is the final change for Liverpool.

Liverpool passing the ball around, with the sole intention of seeing out this game. Ajax tries to break the monotonous nature of the game with an attack down the right. TImber with the eventual shot, but it is wide off the post.

Ajax tries to work its way through the Liverpool midfield, but is not able to. It’s now resorting to long balls, which are being dealt with ease by Van Dijk and Gomez.

Liverpool not too eager to attack at this point. Happy to pass the ball around and see out this win, which will seal its entry to the knockouts.

Jordan Henderson is down clutching his knee. But he is back up and fine. The game has reduced to a formality at this point. But Ajax still trying to string together a few attacks, but is often thwarted by a much more reinforced Liverpool defence.

Ajax fans have lost their voice as quickly as its side lost the bite in its attacks. The story would have been very different had it converted those early chances.

Ajax with some pacy stuff. Quick passing and rapid movements almost saw the Liverpool defence being unlocked. But VVD and co stay strong. Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez is take for Curtis Jones.

Ajax with a few changes as it looks to change things around. But Liverpool in comfortable territory now and the game has slowed down significantly.

Some turnaround from Liverpool. After being the second-best team for a very long time, it has bounced back and is now leading by three goals.

And just like that Liverpool takes a three goal lead. Salah pulls a reverse pass for Harvey Elliott, who takes a touch and smashes it in. 3-0. That should be it.

Second half starts. Ajax will be looking to get over the disappointment of going behind, despite being the better side for most of the first half. Liverpool wins a corner and swings it in. Nunez is the first to react and heads it in. LIVERPOOL LEADS 2-0.

HOW DID LIVERPOOL NOT SCORE!!! Robertson unlocks Ajax’s defence to find Firmino, who despite being face-to-face with Pasveer, decides to square it to Nunez, who inexplicably thrashed it against the post. WHAT A MISS! And we have half time. Liverpool leads Ajax 1-0.

First real chance for Liverpool and Salah converts. Henderson curves one in and Salah finds himself in a better position than Pasveer and then dinks it above the keeper. LIVERPOOL LEADS AGAINST THE RUN OF THE PLAY.

A few coming together and the fans have begun to make their hostility known, particularly against Darwin Nunez, who went down a little too easily. A draw would work in the favour of Liverpool as it will be through to the knockouts with a point.

Liverpool slowly inserting itself into the game. Robertson pushes down the left and tries a shot, but wide. Good spell for Liverpool. At the other end, Tadic with a chance to take the lead. His shot, though, was blocked by Alexander-Arnold.

Ajax wins a freekick in Liverpool half. But chooses to keep possession instead of pinging it in. Liverpool tries to counter from it, but again is left wanting by lack of coordination.

Liverpool clueless on the face of a hyper-intense Ajax. Even when it gets a chance to counter, its forwards are not able to get in sync. Meanwhile, Ajax looks comfortable on the ball and is finding it easy to progress play.

Ajax wins the first corner of the game, but it is a comfortable grab for Alisson. Ajax continues the onslaught and Liverpool yet to make Pasveer make work in the Ajax goal, except for a long ball.

Ajax is not letting up on the intensity and Liverpool is facing the heat. The Dutch side will be fancying its chance to convert this dominance into a tangible lead through a goal.

Liverpool is porous at back and Ajax is making the most out of it. Another shot from Berghuis and it was closer to the goal than Alisson would have liked. Tadic shimmies past two and sets Sanchez up, whose shot is a little too easy for Alisson.

Brobbey has been using his physicality to good effect up front for Ajax. Liverpool patient with the ball, passes it around in the backline for a long period.

Ajax needs to win and win big, if it needs to make something out of this group and it shows in the way it has approached this game so far.

Ajax dominating the early stages. The fans are vociferous, the football is electric and Liverpool is under the crunch.

Kickoff and here we go. Liverpool is in its away kit while Ajax is in its trademark white and red home kit. Ajax controls the early proceedings. A beautiful passage of the game and it almost scores!!! Berghuis strikes the post. UFFF!!!

Playing 11
Ajax: Pasveer; Timber, Sanchez, Bassey, Blind; Klaassen, Berghuis, Alvarez; Tadic, Brobbey, Bergwijn
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson; Nunez, Elliott, Firmino; Salah

Ajax needs a win against Liverpool to stay in the Champions League, when the two teams face off at the Johann Cruyff Arena on Wednesday.

With one game remaining, a point would be enough for the Reds to advance to the knockout rounds. However, Jurgen Klopp's team would be out for a win to boost its chance of unseating Napoli atop Group A.

Ajax appeared to have a good chance of making it to the knockout rounds this season after defeating Rangers 4-0 in their competitive debut, but faced three straight losses then.

Alfred Schreuder's team, now, must defeat the 2018-19 champions and hope Napoli does the same on the final matchday in order to advance to the next round.

Predicted 11
Ajax: Pasveer; Timber, Sanchez Bassey, Blind; Klaassen, Berghuis, Alvarez; Tadic, Kudus, Bergwijn
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Thiago, Henderson; Nunez, Elliott, Firmino; Salah
