MATCH REPORT|

Is 8th placed Chennaiyin among the best this season? Is it as good as Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City? Based on the Expected Goals (xG) metric, here is a detailed analysis. Can play, can't score: Story of Chennaiyin FC's ISL season so far

Sergio Lobera "Very proud and happy. Not easy being unbeaten in 9 games. Important is performance and implementing the style of play in a short time. [On winning despite Jahouh's absence] I have a very good squad and happy with team. Not about individuals, Raynier and Borges did an excellent job Important is collective work. [On if defence was better in absence of Jahouh] I think it's difficult to say that. We worked and did very good job. The back line did well. To find the balance was not easy and I am happy with the balance we struck with attack and defence today."

Antonio Habas, "First half didn't find piece of play and difficult in flanks. They didn't have much chance. We were better and improved in 2nd half. I am very angry with situation that led to goal because our player was injured and they didn't put the ball out."

Williams "We were beaten by a better team tonight. There was a lot of niggly stuff. If we played football like the past before the break then we should be okay. We had a little longer break than we liked. The break allows you to reset and calm down ourselves. We can't make excuses because they were the better team. [On McHugh's absence] I hope he will be back because he is important for us. He has a big presence in the air at the back and as a leader. I hope he will be back next game."

Ogbeche "Tough team to play against but resounding victors of the night. I knew I would get the chance and I knew I shouldn't squander. It was a superb pass from Boumous. They are valuable points. If you drop points you could put yourself in unnecessary pressure. We cant take the foot of the gas table because we could find ourselves in a difficult position later on."

It's a 1-0 win for Mumbai City at the top of the table clash. Mumbai opens up a five-point gap at the top between itself and ATKMB. A half-time read for you. Is 8th placed Chennaiyin among the best this season? Is it as good as Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City? Based on the Expected Goals (xG) metric, here is a detailed analysis. Can play, can't score: Story of Chennaiyin FC's ISL season so far

HALF-TIME. ATKMB has managed to halt Mumbai from scoring in the first half for the first time in 7 matches. MCFC has dominated play and came out firing at the start but Mohun Bagan has shut out the away side. Now it will be the turn of ATKMB, which has scored nine of its 10 goals in the second half. Mumbai can score in the second half as well, it has six goals in the final 45 minutes of games.

ATK Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City face off in clash for top spot

Two of the most consistent sides so far in the 2020-21 season of Indian Super League (ISL) – Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan – set up a clash for a place on the top of the current standings, at the Fatorda Stadium on Monday.

As the tournament approaches the half-way stage, the top sides of the league would like to seize the initiative before the second half of the season.

The current leader Mumbai City FC has scored 16 goals so far and also proved to have the best goal scoring ability with a goal conversion rate of 15.84%. It has scored continuously in the last eight games. This makes the clash interesting as Mohun Bagan has a very good defence having maintained seven clean sheets in nine games. What makes it more important is the fact that Mohun Bagan is yet to concede a goal from open play this season.

The ATK Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Lopez Habas did not wish to follow the indications offered by statistics. “I don't think that Mumbai is a team that only attacks. They are good in progressional play as well as in counter-attacks. It is very difficult to stop their team because they always play forward but I don't think it is just a match between attacking and defending because football is all about it,”Habas said.

“The importance of a match depends on the moment. At present it is a match between the first and second teams. Maybe two or three weeks later, the match may not have the same importance but the idea presently is to play with all intensity,” Habas added.

Making a switchover from a successful side like FC Goa, the Mumbai City FC coach Sergio Lobera has kept his team unbeaten following a defeat in the opening round. But Lobera preferred to treat the match as a mid-season clash and did not wish to attach any more importance.

“I think it is going to be important but not a crucial game. It is just halfway and in this competition anything is possible. Anything can change in short time in the league . Most important thing is now to keep our focus and improve our game,” said Lobera, whose team is currently leading the current standings with 22 points from nine mathes.

Mohun Bagan is just behind with 20 points gained from its nine outings. Though there are no injury concerns for the Spaniard, he will miss the services of Ahmed Jahouh, who received his second red card of the season.
