With Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes yet to agree a new deal, McLaren could be ready to pounce for the four-time Formula One world champion.

Lewis Hamilton would be welcome back with open arms if he does not agree a new deal with Mercedes, says McLaren boss Zak Brown.

The four-time and defending Formula One world champion is in talks with the Silver Arrows over an extension to his contract, which will expire at the end of the 2018 season.

Delays over negotiations have reportedly piqued the interest of other garages around the paddock, and Brown says any manufacturer would be foolish to turn down the chance to secure Hamilton's services.

Earlier this month, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted Hamilton signing a fresh agreement was "a matter of time", but McLaren - with whom the Brit won his first world title in 2008 - would be open to rekindling their relationship.

"Lewis has history here. He is an unbelievable driver," said Brown. "There isn't a team in the pit lane that would not be interested in having Lewis drive for them, us included.

"If anyone got Lewis, it would be great for the team."

Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were McLaren team-mates in 2007 - finishing second and third respectively - and Brown believes the Spaniard would have no qualms over a reunion with his former colleague.

"I think Fernando would race anybody," added Brown. "I have never had a single conversation with him about anything other than himself."
