Ricciardo has managed two second-place finishes and one third this season, and believes the gap is closing between Red Bull and the German constructor.

Daniel Ricciardo believes his Red Bull car is just as good as Mercedes' in the second half of the Formula One season.

While Ricciardo is yet to taste a race win in 2016, the Australian sits third in the F1 standings behind the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Ricciardo has managed two second-place finishes and one third this season, and believes the gap is closing between Red Bull and the German constructor.

"I think we are [closing the gap]," the 27-year-old told Fairfax. "You saw in qualifying [in Germany], we had a bit of it broken up across the lap, where we were quicker and where we lost the time and we mainly lost the time down the straight.

"I think our car is pretty decent. I don't know if it better than theirs, but I would say it is as good. We still just lack a little bit of power."

After his second-place finish in Germany last Sunday, which saw him claim back-to-back podiums, Ricciardo went straight back to England to get some time on the simulator, despite most other F1 drivers going on holiday during the break.

"Pretty much [to England] straight after the race. Simulator today. Normally when I come in after the race we go back to Germany and just check... the set-ups that we used – what worked well – in the simulator so we can trust it in the future," he said.

"Then a bit of Spa [for the Belgian Grand Prix] as well, obviously looking forward to the next one."
