IWL: Eastern Sporting Union triumphs

Kamala Devi’s twin-strike helped Eatern Sporting Union defeat Rising Students Club 3-0 in the final of the Indian Women’s Football League on Tuesday.

Kamala Devi’s twin-strike helped Eatern Sporting Union defeat Rising Students Club 3-0 in the final of the Indian Women’s Football League at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

The title was worth Rs. 10 lakh and the runner-up collected Rs. 5 lakh.

Prameshwori Devi scored the other goal for the winner which dominated the proceedings with a clinical performance. After repeated attempts, Eastern succeeded in opening its account as Kamala Devi tapped home a cross from Prameshwori Devi in the 32nd minute.

Two minutes into the second-half, Eastern missed a good chance, but Kashmina who shot over then, attacked in tandem with Prameshwori a few minutes later. The latter struck at an acute angle to consolidate the position for the team.

Kamala Devi rounded it off with a sharp strike 10 minutes later for her 11th goal, the highest in the league. She was presented a cheque for Rs. 1,00,000.

Jabamani Tudu of Rising Students Club was declared the Emerging Player and presented Rs. 75,000 while Umapati Devi of Eastern was adjudged the Most Valuable Player and awarded Rs. 1,25,000.
