After losing the third round in the Australian Open with Purav Raja, Leander had opted to use the time on hand, especially when he was not playing the mixed doubles, by competing across the globe in the U.S. The ploy worked as he collected 125 ATP points which should push him back into the top-50 in the world ranking.

The former World No.1, Leander had won five Challenger titles last year, and two of them to end the season with Purav Raja.
