Post-match comments!!

Mumbai City head coach Des Buckingham: "We tried to keep Angulo as fresh as we can. He just played a game two days ago. Also, Catatau has played well whenever he has come on. It did not work for us but we had too much to do after the first half. We have to keep addressing the problems and hope we have a good match against Kerala (Blasters FC)."

Mumbai City's Bradden Inman: "A lot of things went wrong. The first 45 was not good enough. We have to regroup. We have a match in six days. We just have to move on. Tomorrow, we will watch the goals and get back on training. We have a big game coming on."

No goals in the second half but we have seen a resolute performance by Bengaluru FC to defeat defending champion Mumbai City FC 3-0.

Mumbai did create a lot more chances in the second half but it could not break the Bengaluru defence. Mumbai had more possession and more passes than its opponents at the end of the match but it is all about what Marco Pezzaiuoli's did with the ball.

Bengaluru FC climbs to seventh with this thumping win with 13 points from 11 matches. Mumbai City stays in second with 17 points from the same number of matches.

67' Off the post- Apuia shoots with a wonderful half-volley from outside the box. The shot is hard and low and beat Gurpreet. However, it hits the post and comes back into play. Unfortunate for the Mumbai youngster.

65' Mumbai being patient in trying to create an opening but the BFC defence is maintaining its shape quite well.

62' Inman slips a great ball to Amey inside the BFC box. He takes too much time in taking his shot and is dispossessed. Cassio catches the loose ball and shoots but it is blocked.

Second half kicks-off!!!

It has been all Bengaluru in the first half. Danish Farooq opened the scoring for the Blues in the eighth minute with a well-taken shot. Prince Ibara doubles BFC's lead in the 23rd-minute with a powerful header from a Roshan Naorem cross. In the dying stages of the first half, it was Roshan Naorem's brilliant corner, which found Ibara's head again and the latter made no mistake in making it 3-0 for the Blues against the defending champions.

Half-time (Mumbai City FC 0-3 Bengaluru FC)!!

26' Booking- Rahul Bheke of Mumbai sees his first yellow of the season.

23' GOOOAAALL!!! BENGALURU DOUBLES IT ADVANTAGE!! ITS IBARA!! Mumbai failed to clear its lines and was punished for that. Naorem got the ball on the right flank and delivered a peach of a cross. Ibara drifted away from his marker and headed the ball inside the goal.

20' Moments away from disaster as Rakip's backpass is awkward for Phurba. The goalkeeper's first touch was not good and the ball was going inside the net but the keeper does enough to keep it out.

16' Ahmed Jahouh's absence in MCFC's midfield is distinctly visible. The Islanders not creating much from the middle of the park in contrast to the matches where Jahouh operates from midfield.

11' BFC players shout for a penalty as Roshan was brought down inside the box but the referee says nothing doing.

Des Buckingham on Mumbai's winless run: "We need to continue getting better at what we do. We’ve played some fantastic football over the past 10 games, not just the four you’ve mentioned, and it’s important that we’re showing signs of getting better. We’ll try to make sure that what we do is as good as it can be over a large period of time."

Marco Pezzaiuoli's thoughts on the match: "Mumbai are a top team, but there are many top teams in the league this year. We lost the first game 3-1, but we had a lot of possession and conceded goals against the run of play. We have to work hard to improve defensively and in attack. We need to give a hundred percent otherwise it can become difficult."

MATCH PREVIEW: ISL 2021-22: Mumbai City FC aims to get back on winning ways against Bengaluru

Bengaluru FC will get yet another opportunity to steady a stuttering season when it meets under-pressure Mumbai City FC at the Fatorda Stadium on Monday.

Marco Pezzaiuoli’s side might be on a four-game unbeaten run, but there hasn’t been a match in recent memory where it has convinced from start to finish.

Defending champion Mumbai, after a rollicking start that saw it win five of the opening six games, has lost two and drawn two of its last four, allowing the likes of Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan to catch up.

Both BFC and Mumbai had their previous matches against bottom-placed SC East Bengal and both ended in draws. While it may reflect the Kolkata outfit’s newly found steeliness under interim head coach Renedy Singh, it also points to the state of play at BFC and Mumbai.

While BFC has been increasingly adept at controlling possession, it has struggled to score from open play, with attacking patterns failing to materialise.

“We need to get better in the final phase,” Pezzaiuoli said, on match-eve. “We had many good balls in the last third but when you are dominating possession, wingers need to have more quality. The pass to wingers behind the defence was good but we need to bring the ball inside.”

Against Mumbai, it may not have a lion’s share of the ball but the form Des Buckingham’s side is in provides hope. The Englishman has seen his wards concede 10 goals from just three matches before the 0-0 draw against East Bengal. He will also be without midfield lynchpin Ahmed Jahouh, who is suspended.

“Now we need to kick on and make sure we continue with the clean-sheets in the upcoming matches,” Buckingham said, referring to the last draw. “We need to maintain a good defensive shape.”

The way Mumbai has been pulled back after it threatened to run away with the league shows how topsy-turvy the competition has been, with teams routinely cancelling each other out. BFC’s hopes rest on the same, for despite being in the ninth position, a win can catapult the 2018-19 champion within touching distance of a playoff spot.
