DC vs KKR Highlights, IPL 2024: Narine, Raghuvanshi and Vaibhav star as Kolkata beats Delhi by 106 runs

There’s the win and it’s a massive one as Kolkata extends its winning streak, jumping to the top of the points table with three wins in a row. In a massive chase of 273, Delhi folded out for 166 in 17.2 overs, with Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs scoring half-centuries. 

Vaibhav Arora picks his third wicket and has used the short ball to really good effect as he bounces out Rasikh Salam with Philip Salt taking a simple catch behind the stumps. 

Sunil Narine picks his first wicket and finishes with figures of 4-029-1. Sumit Kumar falls as Delhi Capitals need 112 runs in 24 balls.

Tristan Stubbs brings up his fifty in 28 balls and has made an impression to the management that he can bat and strike well as he creams Varun for a boundary over the covers. However, Varun has the last laugh as he removes Stubbs who picks up Mitchell Starc in the deep and an excellent innings comes to an end. A brilliant 54 off 32 balls. Varun finishes with 4-0-33-3.

Stubbs continues to attack and he smashes Narine over the covers for a maximum and then turns to the other side with a superb flick over the backward square leg region. Sumit Kumar then pulls Narine into the stands as the spinner concedes three sixes in an over. 

Varun Chakravarthy strikes, and this time Shreyas Iyer makes no mistake as he takes the catch with Pant mis-timing a shot after reaching his half-century. Axar Patel comes and walks back for a duck as Delhi’s chase is almost coming to an end. Kolkata is on top of the game and will look to polish off the tail. 

Rishabh Pant welcomes Venkatesh Iyer with a boundary and then a massive six over the extra cover region. The Delhi skipper gets his wrists into play by crouching down and flicking Iyer over the deep, fine leg for a maximum. Wow, what a shot! A full toss was then dispatched through the backward point boundary, and this is poor bowling. Pant gets to his fifty in 23 balls, his first against KKR with a boundary behind the square, and ends the over with yet another boundary to the backward point region. 28 runs off the over!

Varun continues, and one of the batsmen has to take the risk of going for the big shots as the required rate is steadily climbing with each over passing. The boundaries have dried up and Varun rolls out another economical over. 

The strategic break is over as Narine continues, and Delhi needs to go big with the required rate now touching 17 rpo. Both Pant and Stubbs are being chained at the moment as Kolkata tightens its grip over the game.

Spin from both ends, and Stubbs welcomes Varun Chakravarthy with a huge six over the deep mid-wicket. Stubbs then makes room, goes on to his backfoot, and with sheer power muscles the spinner for another maximum over long-on. Shreyas Iyer then drops a dolly at deep to allow Stubbs to extend his stay at the wicket, and the fifty-run partnership is up.

First signs of spin as Sunil Narine, who impressed with his explosive batting, now tries to break this stand. Excellent start as Narine gives up just five runs from his over. 

Andre Russell enters into the attack as both Stubbs and Pant look to take on the bowling attack. Pant makes a statement with two brilliant sixes - first a nice pick-up shot over the deep square leg and then targeting the same region to give Delhi hope.

Stubbs gets going and is playing his shots by fetching back-to-back boundaries - a cut through the backward point and then a top-edge that flew over the fine-leg region. Delhi needs more of those as the required rate has touched the 15-run mark against the current run-rate of 8.4. The fifty comes in the PowerPlay.

Warner chops on! Huge wicket for Kolkata, and this game is almost in KKR’s bag as the The Australian after hitting a maximum got a thick inside edge as the ball deflected on tp the stumps to give Starc his second wicket. Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs have a job in their hands. 

Arora continues and he purchases some significant movement off the surface, and Kolkata is really tightening things. Abhishek Porel falls as Arora bounces out the batsman with a brilliant short ball to leave Delhi three down. Kolkata is right on top of this game, unless someone plays a blinder to take Delhi across the line.

Mitchell Starc strikes and Mitch Marsh falls as Starc picks his first wicket in this season. Marsh goes for a full-blooded strike, and Ramandeep at the point region takes a blinder to leave Delhi two down. Delhi needs someone to play a blinder. 

David Warner welcomes Vaibhav Arora with back to back boundaries - both towards the fine leg region. The move of bringing in the Impact Player pays off as Arora strikes to remove Prithvi Shaw who was caught at mid-on, with Varun Chakravarthy taking an excellent low catch. 

Vaibhav Arora being introduced as the Impact Player in place of Raghuvanshi. Mitchell Starc with the new ball as David Warner and Prithvi Shaw begin the run chase. Shaw uses the pace of Starc and guides the short ball to the third man boundary and then goes square of the wicket to fetch back to back boundaries. 

Russell is on the ground! Wow, Ishant Sharma produces a beauty, a brilliant yorker to pack off the big-hitter who falls for a brilliant 19-ball 41, and you can’t buy experience. Ishant then removes Ramandeep, and Delhi, with some late strikes, has done some damage control. Venkatesh Iyer fetches a boundary as Kolkata posts 272/7 in 20 overs.The highest total in the IPL still belongs to Sunrisers Hyderabad!

Rinku Singh gets into the act as he smashes Nortje to the deep third man and then hammers the next ball over long-off before launching the bowler over long-on. He doesn’t end there, as he smacks a length delivery through the extra cover region for a boundary, and the fireworks ended with Warner pouching Rincku inside the circle, who falls for a brilliant 8-ball 26. 

Khaleel Ahmed picks his second wicket as Shreyas Iyer, after smashing a six to the deep backward point, falls while trying to up the ante as he gets a top-edge, and Stubbs takes a good catch as the pull from the KKR skipper doesn’t come off. Rinku Singh in the middle, and it remains to be seen if Kolkata can gun down Sunrisers’ highest IPL total. 

Everything is going KKR’s way as a top-edge from Russell flies to the third man boundary, and then the batsman deposits Marsh over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Mind you, it was a mis-hit but the ball still flew over the boundary. Iyer connects, and the skipper does well as he pummels Marsh over the deep mid-wicket for his first six of the night. 

The 200 is up for KKR with Russell muscling Khaleel over the covers for a maximum, and the ploy of bowling wide to the batsman is not working as it is resulting in wides. Russell is going at a strike rate of 245.45, but Iyer is yet to find his rhythm. Russell has changed his bat, and the death overs should be interesting. Pressure on Delhi to contain Kolkata. 

Russell the Muscle! reads a card in the stands, and the big-hitter smashes Rasikh Salam into the night sky for a huge maximum over the long-on and then drills through the backward point for a boundary. The Delhi bowlers are missing their lengths and are getting punished. KKR en route to crossing the 200-run mark. 

Angkrish Raghuvanshi falls for a 27-ball 54, and what an absolutely gem of an innings this has been. He tried to play the ramp shot off Nortje but hit it straight down the throat of Ishant Shamrma at third man. Russell is slowly getting into his zone with a slap over the extra cover. KKR is eyeing a huge total. 

Narine misses century! The variation of pace worked as Mitch Marsh broke the 104-run partnership with Narine falling for a marvellous 39-ball 85, and his knock was laced with seven sixes and an equal number of boundaries. A short cross-seam delivery and Narinewent for it only to get an edge as Rishabh Pant makes no mistake. Raghuvanshi, meanwhile, reaches his half-century in 25 balls, and it has been a wonderful knock. Andre Russell gets into the act with a boundary to the deep mid-wicket. 

Narine has now scored his highest score in all T20 formats, and a flat-batted six over long-off leaves Nortje stunned. It’s all hand-eye coordination, and the way he clears his front leg and gets underneath the ball is simply amazing. The 100-run partnership between Narine and Raghuvanshi is up.

Rasikh Salam is back into the attack, and Raghuvanshi manufactures a brilliant reverse hit to send the ball over the third man region for a maximum and then a brilliant six over the deep mid-wicket as Kolkata is making a huge statement with the bat in the coastal city. On a belter of a track, they have come all guns blazing! The 150 is up.

Mitchell Marsh into the attack, but Narine continues to attack as he smashes a slower delivery and successfully clears in the in-field as the ball races away to the boundary. KKR are bossing the game with a run-rate of close to 14, as Marsh bowls a decent over given the hammering the Delhi bowlers have received. 

Raghuvanshi proving his worth in the No. 3 position, and this is excellent batting. An excellent pick-up shot as the ball sails over the deep mid-wicket and then ends the over with a boundary through the point region. Delhi needs to stop the leakage of runs, and the break might give the bowlers some breather. What a massacare!

Spin introduced, and it’s Axar Patel, but the runs are coming thick and fast. Raghuvanshi welcomes the spinner with a reverse sweep that ran to the boundary, and then Narine dispatches the bowler over the deep square leg for a huge maximum. Narine seems to have set his eyes over the boundary as he smokes Axar over the deep square leg region for yet another maximum. The 100 is up for KKR, as is the 50-run partnership.

Sumit Kumar enters the attack, and he produces an opportunity, but Nortje drops Narine. Nevertheless, it was a quiet over, as just five runs came from the over. 

Rasikh Salam replaces Ishant Sharma, but there is no stopping Sunil Narine. A brilliant shot through the cover-point region for a boundary and then a massive six over the deep mid-wicket, followed by another boundary through the mid-off, and then he brings up his fifty in style in 21 balls with another boundary over the short third man. 88 runs in the PowerPlay!

Anrich Nortje strikes, and Salt fails to latch on to his luck as he was dropped by Warner at deep backward square leg, but the very next ball, the batsman mistimes a shot, and Stubbs takes a good catch at mid-off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi starts off well with consecutive boundaries and relies on pure timing with a punch past the point being the pick of the shot. Nice way to start the innings. 

Ishant Sharma is getting some treatment for bowling short as Narine smacks him for two sixes - first a length delivery that was dispatched over mid-off and then a lovely pull over the deep square leg. The boundaries continue to flow as Narine guides Ishant through the backward point for a boundary and then a brilliant shot over the wide of long-off to bring the fifty up for KKR. Narine then finished the over with a boundary to the third-man region. 26 runs from Ishant’s over!

Narine gets into the act as he slashes Khaleel through the off-side for a boundary, and the execution was perfect as the West Indian made room and crunched the back-of-length delivery through the point region. Salt then joins the party as he nails the bowler over the covers before fetching another boundary through the off-side carpet and this is a fabulous start from KKR. 

Right then the veteran Ishant Sharma is into the attack, and he has a slip and a short third man as Delhi aims to make an early breakthrough. Narine swings and misses, and Delhi won’t mind that, as the batsman might fall in search of quick runs. First runs from the bat as Narine gets off the mark with a single to the deeep. Salt, too, gets off the mark with a boundary by clearing the in-field and then finds another boundary through the square of the wicket. Kolkata is up and running. 

Khaleel Ahmed almost got a wicket in his very first ball as he digs in short, induces an outside edge, and the ball brushes the fingers of Rishabh Pant, who leaps but couldn’t get hold of the ball as it runs away to the fence. Umpiring error as it was called 4byes! Khaleel is purchasing swing and bounce from the surface, and his lengths this season have been fantastic. Both batsmen are yet to get off the mark. 

It’s a sea of blue in Visakhapatnam, and Delhi, playing at their home ground, will be bowling first. Sunil Narine and Philip Salt will open the batting for Kolkata, and it will be Khaleel Ahmed with the new ball. Here we go!
